When it comes to craftsmanship, the end product is only part of the journey. As any artisan knows, the real satisfaction comes from the process itself—from the first cut to the final stitch, each step is a reflection of skill and dedication.

In this special collaboration, we’re excited to feature Michael Stricklin of Loyal Stricklin, a master leather craftsman who brings his expertise and unique perspective to our watch straps. Michael's attention to detail and dedication to his craft are evident in every piece he creates. Capturing the essence of our process, Andrew Reed led the photography and direction, lending an artistic eye that truly brings this story to life. Additional photography by Joinathan Kohn further highlights the intricacies of each step, showcasing the textures and tools that define our work.

Our process begins with choosing the right leather. For example, we often work with butero vegetable-tanned leather from Italy, which is ideal for watch straps due to its skin-friendly properties and its ability to break in beautifully over time. We consider every detail, from the selection of the leather to how it will feel on the wrist. It's this commitment to quality that turns raw materials into something remarkable.

Each strap is carefully cut and shaped using specialized tools, such as a 16-ton hydraulic press and a skyver to bring the leather to the perfect thickness. While a watch strap may seem small, it demands a high level of attention to detail. Every cut, fold, and stitch has to be precise, as even the smallest imperfections will stand out.

One of the most interesting parts of the process is understanding the leather itself. Leather varies based on the part of the hide it comes from, and each piece brings its own character to the strap. We examine every inch, choosing the best sections for strength and durability while avoiding any loose or uneven areas. This ensures that the final product not only looks beautiful but also performs well over time.

This project is more than just about technique—it’s a fusion of like-minded creators. Partnering with Michael Stricklin brings together our respective crafts, pushing us to refine our skills and create something that reflects both of our values. Andrew Reed and Jonathan Kohn’s photography provide a visual narrative that enhances the story of our collaboration, capturing the beauty in the process and the final product.

By focusing on the process, not just the product, we stay true to the art of making. It’s a reminder that the best things take time, attention, and a little bit of heart. Craftsmanship is as much about solving problems and adapting as it is about executing a perfect stitch. It’s a process that reveals the beauty in each step, and I’m grateful to share a glimpse of this journey with you.
